If you want to get a serious case of blood poisining you should definately follow Fuse's advice...alternatively use some grip tape.

Never got blood poisoning.

[And that advice had come from a great big-band drummer. ] *doh!*

We were alternating sets at a gig & I'd run out of 'wrap.' As he could see from backstage, my grimacing, that I was in some pain, he'd pulled some SG out of his stickbag & said, 'here, use this;' & the rest, as we say, is 'history'...

But I agree with ya anyway: grip tape is a much better idea [duh]. ;cp

Hence the " OK, maybe this isnt going to be the wisest admission of advice," followed by the "maybe that's what's wrong ith me"...

...[There are better ways to get your daily glue requirement besides sniffing...anyways, sniffing is dangerous]... j/k

From my first post, here:
Some of the big name-band pro touring guys have their sticks dipped/coated in this kind of gooey, semi-sticky substance, that allows for better grip w/out the chaffing/burning or w/out being TOO sticky...
